Ask Me Anything Series
Question: “I’m in the middle of looking for a nanny, but a friend mentioned EchoMom™. Why would you choose EchoMom™ over a nanny?”
When I first started my search for household help, my top priority was finding a nanny. I was convinced that what I needed most was childcare, someone to step in and care for my boys so I could keep my career moving forward without feeling like I was shortchanging my family.
I imagined a nanny as the ultimate solution: someone who would give me hours back in my day and space to focus on work. And honestly? That was the plan… until I hired my EchoMom™.
What I Thought I Needed vs. What I Actually Needed
Here’s the thing I didn’t realize: I wasn’t drowning because I didn’t have childcare. I was drowning because of everything else—the mental load, the invisible labor, the constant decision-making and logistics that come with running a home and a family.
Even with a nanny, I still would have been:
- Managing the household supplies and backstock
- Planning and packing for trips
- Organizing seasonal clothes and school gear
- Restocking the fridge and pantry
- Coordinating with service providers, schools, and camps
- Prepping the home for guests and resetting it after
I didn’t just need someone to take care of my kids. I needed someone to take care of the rest so I could fully show up for my kids. Someone to care for the flow of our life.
How EchoMom™ Changed Everything
When my EchoMom™ took over managing the home and the invisible load, something unexpected happened—I realized I had the capacity to be more present as a mother.
Because I wasn’t buried in errands, laundry piles, or mental checklists, I had more energy and attention to give to my boys. I wasn’t trying to cram in quality time between chores and deadlines. I could actually be with them. I could be present, calm, and unhurried.
And that’s when it hit me: why am I still looking for a nanny? I found something better.
Why I Stopped Looking For a Nanny
My EchoMom™ gave me back something more valuable than hours. She gave me mental bandwidth.
By taking care of the home’s flow, by anticipating needs, keeping things stocked, prepping for the week ahead, she freed up my headspace.
Without the entire weight of the household on my shoulders, I didn’t need someone else to be there in my place for my kids. Because EchoMoms aren’t there to replace you, but to echo you.
The Bottom Line
If what you need most is someone to take care of your kids during the hours you’re unavailable, a nanny might be the perfect fit.
But if what’s draining you is the mental load and logistical weight of keeping your household running, then EchoMom™ may be the smarter first step.
Sometimes, the right support doesn’t replace your role as a mother, but restores it.
